Event Details

During the one day masterclass Larry will introduce his work and the ideas and motivation behind it. Later in the day there will be a chance for participants to present their own work for discussion by Larry and the group. This event is aimed at anyone interested in a career in social documentary photography.

Larry Herman was born in New York and came to the UK in 1968 during the Vietnam War. Trained as a sculptor, be began photographing full-time in his mid 20s. He has also worked on the London Underground and in steel mills and foundries in Sheffield. His work is based on building relationships of trust with his subjects; he never reorganises what he sees through the lens, telling people to "sit there, stand here". His work concentrates on working people and explores the social and working environments that are forced on them by economic necessity.

Book now to hear photographer Larry Herman talk about his work, plus the opportunity to show your own work for discussion. Bring up to 8 images on a flash drive or prints (please indicate which when you book your ticket).

The event takes place from 10:30 to 17:00 on 18 July 2011.
